LOL...that's exactly what I did in my Chevelle. I'll have to get over to the car and get a picture of it.
I fabbed a bezel out of .065 aluminum to go around the hole I cut. Had to cut into the side of the stainless plate though. And would'nt you know, but 5 to 6 months later I found and bought two nos Ram Rod boots. It's chrome. When I restore these shifters I always chrome the reverse lever.

The E-bay add says it fits all Muncie 4-speeds, the levers in the pictures will only fit 1968 and older Muncies with studded shift shafts, and 2nd design ST-10's...
