I like asking the "know it alls" where their car is at? Usually shuts them up pretty quick.

Who cares what they think? Hell, you can have a 100% correct, stock, "normal" Chevelle and you're going to have to deal with "those" people anyway. For me, it's a no-brainer - how easy is it to find an unusual Chevelle? And how many of them are this unusual? PS> White stripes all the way! </div></div> Couldn't agree more; well stated.

That would be my guess. Difficult to say due to the unique color but since the market for that color might be smaller than normal, I would say you are close for a L34 '70 SS396 as you described when completed.

I'd love to have it. No stripes please. Boy they did some weird things for customers back then.

I read about a 70 W30 convert in plum crazy purple from the factory, and from a write up on that car, it was said that some dealers got around an allotment constraint through using the 'color change' trick (that info came from the original dealer that ordered the car). It is amazing what an extra $50 would get ya back then. Plum crazy puple was the most popular mopar color in 70. here is something fun to read. http://wmachineregistry.com/index.php/co...azy-purple.html |

That Olds is undocumented, although I believe it to be true.
There's also a documented Stage 1 Gran Sport in Plum Crazy. However, I do believe the cost to get a special-order color was around $100. They're rare but they were done. |

that is true, the w30 was (is) undocumented, other than the original owner saying it was and he was a dealer.
Maybe the good part of that story was to get more 442s at a dealer, you changed the color, so maybe some chevy dealers changed the color to get more SS's. food for thought. -bob |

I'm not so sure I believe that story, although that's not to say it's not true. I do think since each of GM's brands operated practically as independent companies, it's possible that this story is Olds-specific. Whatever the case, I can think of numerous cars that were ordered with non-RPO colors that had nothing to do with anything other than the owner wanting a color that suited his/her personality, or perhaps for a promotion.
