Default Base motor sidepipe '66 Corvette

I had to post this picture of the original owner returning to California from purchasing this '66 in Denver. He and his wife were vacationing in Denver and saw this car at Luby Chevrolet and bought it. He originally went to a Porsche dealership, but they wouldn’t let him test drive one of their cars. He went to Luby Chevrolet and picked this car from their inventory of new Corvettes. It came with knock off wheels and goldlines along with sidepipes, but the knock off wheels were transferred to another car before he bought it. The original owner said he went to the Porsche dealership and showed them the new Corvette he bought and left with a burnout in their lot. The POP shows Luby Chevrolet, Denver, but the original owner is in Long Beach, CA. An original California ’66 with no smog pump is unusual.

It is a 327/300 horse that came new with side pipes. This is an unusual option combination. The car is a four part Bloomington Survivor and an NCRS Top Flight car.
It just landed in my garage and I'm going to drive it all I can.

Sorry for the poor quality shots.

I have a set ok K.O.'s picked out, we'll see. Still has the knock off wheel instructions on the bottom of the original stowage cover.

I've learned that you can almost identify the engine in a mid-year Corvette that has sidepipes even if the hood is closed! The smaller-horse hydraulic camshaft motors just idle so smooth through the side exhaust compared to the solid lifter'ed 327 and 427's. I'll tell 'ya though . . . . one of my favorite sounds in the world is the optional 327-350 HP RPO L-79 when it's thumping through factory side exhaust! If you ever have to do any internal engine work on your beautiful 'Vette, you just gotta slide one of the #151 camshafts in that motor. That's been an extremely popular modification for over 40 years!

Mark, I just sold a '65 327/300 horse that had the L79 cam in it and it would out run this car. The engine in this sidepipe car has never been out of the car, it has the GM warranty gaskets still in place on the intake manifold. Its bark is worse than its bite, if you know what I mean.
