----Seen plenty. Some I wish I hadnt ever looked at. Actually found out that I holed a piston with chunks of the exhaust valve on a very mild 350/250/2bbl mercruiser just tonight. I bought it new and the thing only has about 150 hours on it and it has never been over 4800rpm.. We are scratching our collective heads up here. Of course,,,warrantee is over!!!!!.......Bill S

Vintage 1971 Metalflake paint chart showing their candy apple paint lines, Flip Flops, Star Pearls & Eerie Dress. Metalflake is still around but only carries a few original colors. I remember going to indoor car shows and still being able to smell the fresh lacquer. Laquer gave off a really distinctive smell under the lamps of an ISCA indoor show. Just like mimeograph paper you never forget the smell.I can see "Gary the Local Brush" picking out the colors to put on the Baldwin Motion rainbow scroll car...

1970's Gratiot catalog. Gratiot had 7 stores in the Michigan area plus mail order. Amazing how many companies and speed shops where selling speed equipment back in the day. I grew up in a rural area of around 5000 people and lived within a town of around 50k and there were at least 15-20 places that sold speed equipment back in the day.Everything from speed shops, department stores(JC Penny and Harts), auto parts stores etc.
All of these places are gone for the most part. Really tells you how much is going out the doors of Summit and Jegs every year doesn't it? ![]() |
