OK - .640 wire with 17.1 unloaded weight sat too high. I finally installed the stock MC-1228 spring and I'm very pleased with the height and stiffness. The MC-1228 has the same unloaded height as the one that is recommended for first gen BB coupes (MC-1266), but it has .010 thicker wire diameter which accomodates the convertible dampener weight. The folks at Eaton are great to work with.
