I´m sure the experts here will chime in, but I would get ahold of Kurt S from CRG...or maybe he will chime in here...

I will say that the pad stamp sure looks well aged...and also that is the clearest vin stamp I have seen...most that I have seen are barely legible...

but I am no expert on these stampings...

sounds like a cool car if it turns out to be real!! good luck !!

I have a picture of an original L78 motor stamped seven days past this one. A Norwood car as well. On the one I have, the head must have been in place for them to stamp as you can see the angle it was stamped at.

This is an L78 we just purchased and sold recently. The engine is being rebuilt, I can get a vin picture when it gets back here.

David,

This is most certainly a restamp - it is missing all the patina that an original non-rebuilt motor should have. By the way, I am being very sarcastic - that is a good example of what a stamping should look like. I would really like to see the vin pad and compare them.

I am surprised by the misalignment of the letters on this block...not that I have not seen that before..but not too often... or is it the angle of the pic maybe?? or just my old age and vision failing me??

I remember this car on ebay last month. Sorry, but I think it is a restamped block.
Axle could be the original (standard ratio was 3.55, but 3.31 is pretty common). Date is OK.
I'll reserve comment on that tag pic.

That's why some BB stamps are partly under the head.
