Default Re: Where it all started / video

Someone had asked me yesterday where it all started. Yes back in the day I wasn't worried about #'s either. This Garnet red z28 was my second. I bought it without an engine with the intention of street racing. Amazingly in a few weeks I found an orig 302 motor in a 69 repossessed corvette a friend of mine George had purchased. He had a body shop which his son now operates, and when I saw this corvette at his shop I lifted the hood out of curiosity. As I viewed the engine pad, bam it had the DZ engine suffix (god only knows how it got there). I paid George $300 for the motor, and pulled it out in twenty minutes. I installed the motor but wasn't satisfied so I installed the grey painted motor pictured. That motor was a stroked LT1 with angle plug heads, and was the first motor I built with the guidance of Bill Scott who was the chief mechanic on the Grandsport Corvette. Bill worked for Sunoco but was part of the Penske race team and a true mentor to me. This was done sometime before March of 77 because that is the date on the back of the pictures.

Shortly after I installed the LT1 I purchased a set for cragars from K&G (Chris Gains) and ran N-50's. That car ran real strong. They were the days....

I had two other cars, my daily driver was a hideous mint green vega (look closely its parked behind the Z). and my pride and joy is posted on the link below. This is the car that started it all and I’m fortunate to have her back home.
