The windex and 0000 steel wool works wonders. I've done two so far and they turned out great.

Try just Vinegar & 0000 steel wool too.
It's the main ingredient in Windex and doesn't cloud up as much when used straight. It acts as a lubricant for the wool,as well as removing the dirt/grime/rust. |

Ya know, now that you mention it I think I did soak the caps in vinegar first.
