Looks like for 72 they might have used two different type of dipsticks also, for my 72 Nova which is a late built car(July)still retains it's original stick and is the flat tip handle.

well with out looking at my cars dipstick though it would be the wrong one.just looked and its the 1969-71 flat tip handle with all the right markings.i am just and a hole.now i have a green tip on the way here.
