The baby seats we had when I was a kid involved laying on the rear package tray.
The photo above is a classic. Looks like Ralph Nader? I wonder if anyone questioned why a 5-year old girl is driving a car. ![]()

We just rolled around in the back of the station wagon or pick-up and used our sisters, brothers and friends as padding. I remember flying across the front seat during one accident and I never remember anyone ever telling us to wear our seat belts (if there were any). Ahh, the good ole days!
