The Audi 5000 was the one that ran down kids in a driveway. We also had one try and drive off the ferry while we were underway.

Yeah, the 5000 fwd auto cars had the problem. Brake and accelerator pedal too close and people would begin to brake and suddenly hit the accelerator upexpetedly.
I'll take exceltion about Audi's not accelerating. I'm into 1980's quattro cars. Pike's Peak records, Uncer and the "unfair advantage", Audi's Sport quattro for vintage stuff. Heck, it sure didn't have it in the looks department, so for $75,000 in 1985 these better have accelerated!  They have plenty of moden S cars with twin turbos, V10 , supercahrgers etc.
