On small runs or in your case a drip we take a paint stick or something similar and just knock down that high spot very carefully trying not to do too much sanding to the original paint, when it gets down close to the OE paint or the repaint you can now sand it by hand working the same area. Now you can polish it with some compound 5974 3M or by hand and then some 3M finesse. It is very easy just need to take some time. Good luck.
