I can´t answer your question Jeff, but are you saying that they are making the special reinforcements in the trunk and also the special rearwindow arrangements for these cars today ?

They weren't "converted" back into anything, they simply had the wings and noses removed and normal fenders and grill hardware put into place. Our local dealership in West Haven, Connecticut did that to their Superbird back in the day.

Steve, if a car was found that once was a winged car but then those items were removed would it be worth more as is or with the wing/nose added back onto the car? Do they even make those items as REPO parts??

Here's the repo stuff to make a Daytona/Superbird. These guys are the ones who make all the cool "phantom" 1-of-none wing cars that have gotten ink the last few years.

http://www.officialdayclona.com/services

Don't forget that '70 Superbirds had '70 Dodge Coronet front fenders, so those will have to be swapped back on as well. Hard to imagine now that a 'Bird was so sale-proof by 1971 that it made sense to put a whole FRONT CLIP on, remove the wing, and paint most of the car to make it go away.

I think they're definitely worth more in wing trim. Would a ZL1 Camaro be worth more with the random small block put in after the dealer sold the engine to a racer to try and get the $7000 white elephant off his lot?.

I hope you'll show pics if you're successful! I think the Cars In Barns site might show a couple of Superbirds sans the pointy beaks, but with the telltale rear window treatment (the flush mounted rear window and resulting mandatory vinyl top would not have been changed back)

If you spot a 70 Road Runner with a "U" engine code (I.E. RM23U0), it's a 'Bird.

For the uninitiated, that's because the Roadrunner came with the 383 (N code) or the 440-6 barrel (V code) or the Hemi (R code). Only the GTX and the Superbird came with the 440 4bbl (U code) in 1970.

But there are Hemi superbirds that were converted back to Roadrunners, they have the R-code.

One lucky guy over here found out that it wasn't just an ordinary Hemi roadrunner he had, it was a Superbird. Telltale was of course the rearwindow and the rearwing reinforcements in the rear quarters.

Car is in its final moments of restoration and should be ready for next summer.
