Jim, this car needs a complete resto. There is nothing left on the driver and passenger side floor. It's too far gone for just a quick cleanup and it really does deserve to be restored. Here's some pictures of our L78 we finished last year.

Seriously though...you are at the local cruise night...a super nice, frame off LS-6 pulls in to the left....Lic plate sez 'REAL-1'

Then right behind it, PULLING TO THE RIGHT,comes this car exactly as it sits but running and sounding perfect...Plate sez...'REAL-TOO'

Both cars have the original window stickers plastered in the 1/4 Glass....

You only have time to look at one...wife is going nuts....which way you turning?

Couldn't have said it better. I'd be all-over this car before heading over to the restored one. However, it is YOUR car and you're entitled to do with it as you wish. That's why survivor's are getting harder to find every day... and their value is going up at the same rate.

Thanks for posting the quality reference pics!

I share your sentiments Jim and completely understand what you're saying but if you could see this floor in person, you'd know where I'm coming from. I'd be afraid to sit in it, the bucket seat may go right to the pavement. It's just not safe and from my research, the car hasn't been on the road since '77. It flat out needs a resto, there are no other options here. It either sits as is forever, or it gets restored. There's no quick cleanup for a cruise night, trust me.

Not to be argumentative, but there is a middle ground here - one could do a (as Jay Leno would put it) "sympathetic refurbishment" as opposed to an all-out resto...You could repair the floors, rebuild the brakes, get everything working and still retain the patina....

that says it all

A.) another ho-hum, yeah sure it is real ?

or

B.) the real deal with the provenance of real world patina

B. is the answer, the patina encrusted one. I want to see what it was supposed to be like, not someone's idea of what it was

no slam intended, but as noted several times above, they are "real" only once

a LOT more people are realizing that and the $$$$$ is reflected as well

my opinion (which others happen to share I see), ymmv
