How many mounting studs? Are the studs threaded or smooth?

Maybe differences in the years? I've had a couple of people ask about the one on my '69.

The threaded bolt Nova hood mouldings are worth a good bit more than the later run/produced smooth studs. There are not many of these originals out there and threaded version is what came on the Nova originally. There are lots of the later run version in the marketplace

Sully is right. The originals have machine threaded studs. 99% of the NOS ones are the smooth studs with thread cutter nuts, and to make it worse - two of the studs are actually mia. The smooth style can be retrofitted of course, but that's the difference. I have the smooth style on my deuce, and have a few smooth NOS versions - but am always looking for the threaded ones.

Didn't they start using the smooth stud style at some point, because my 72 still has the original one in place held on with speed nuts??I am the second owner and bought it when it was only 4 yrs. old,so i am sure it's original to the car.

Don't know when the smoothies started, but don't count on the impossibility of yours being replaced within the first 4 years of life - it doesn't take much to ding one up!
