Can anyone tell me any info on these cars? How many Berger sold, how many shipments they got, number of RS cars, how many are still accounted for?I know some info is hard earned, and some of you might not want to say,but is there anything you could tell me? Also, what other dealers sold any RS cars and how many? Thanks!

Dana, the short answer is nobody knows how many COPO Camaros were sold by Berger. There were 3 at the SCR this year, a fathom green RS, a Lemans blue 4 spd car, and mine.
The RS car is a thing of beauty. ![]() According to Kurt S. at the CRG, I have the last known Camaro ordered by Berger, built 05D. Please, tell us more about yours, and before anyone else says it, post some pics.

The 1969 Camaro Reference Book by John Hooper has an interview with Dale Berger, Jr. He stated that they sold 40-50 COPO 9561's, 10 COPO Chevelle's, and 1 COPO 9560 ZL-1, a yellow one.

Bob,
Ben's car was the low mile gold Copo Camaro, the only single Copo Berger ordered. Ben said he wanted the cheapest Copo on the lot of the 27 they had in stock in July '69! Ben said the car had been ordered for Arens/Booth but took to long to come in so they built another car to race. The car is currently in the Colo. collection of Wayne S. Mark |

During a recent conversation with Dale Berger he said there were 40 double COPOs ordered 20 at a time, the 1 single COPO, and the ZL1 car. The cars are February and May cars. Don't know how many are RS cars, but I have info. on @ 6 of them. When I bought my white car in Oct. 69 there was an Olympic gold RS car with Ansen Sprints I really wanted, but it was too expensive. That car went to an owner in Kalamazoo, and we ended up racing each other in the middle of town. There were @ 8 cars there left to sell, wish I had owned a camera! We have found the body #s are consecutive, per order, but the vin #s can be 100s apart. Example - my white car, and a Lemans blue car I owned are 3 body #s apart, but 263 vin #s apart. I have a friend who worked for GM in special order areas, and he explained to me why that happens. If interested, give me a call or a PM.
Hope this helps. |
