Hit it with some clay, then some mild polish. If the backside has color, make sure you're not removing paint. Also, any product with excessive silicone is not ideal for lacquer. 3M Hand Glaze should work...

Personally, I would think of the yellowing as 'patina' and leave them alone.

That is what I thought too. Plates would look better in a 40 year old patina, not brand new!

They look plenty old with the lettering and light scratches. But the white is yellow and would look 100 times better if it was not as yellow....I can deal with a little.
I will try the clay to see what that does. Thanks again!!
