Hey guys. Thanks for all the support and to all the folks that posted on so many sites about this horrible news. What a roller coaster ride emotionally and physically.
Once I realized the complete rig was taken, I know time was very very precious. The odds of recovery looked very bleak and non existant.
Dealing with the cops was very frustrating and time consumming. A good friend suggested a reward right away to get there attention, cause usually the cars are parted out in the first 24 hours.
I knew in my heart that they were after the truck and the truck only, but the trailer was a bonus and I'm sure they could hardly wait to see what was behind door #1!
My friend went out on the reserve at noon the next day and put out a big reward on the condition that the car came back in the same shape they recieved it. Any damage would result in less money. It took 3 hours for the call(s) to come in.
Saturday things were lined up for a Sunday morning deal.
Sunday got up a 6am and drove the 2 hours back. We got a hotel room 20 minutes away from where it was going to happen. The next 48 hours you could have made a movie. Came home Sunday night with no car and negotiations started all over again on Monday. Finally @ 6pm the exchange was made off the rez in a church parking lot. Can't give any more details than that right now, but I still can't believe the car is in my shop as it was literally hours away from being parted out. Indians told me the car was "scary fast" and that it was the fastest car they ever drove.
You gotta do what you gotta do. There is going to be some changes around here!
Thanks again for all your support.
Peter

Great news Peter! We fully understand that there are things you can't disclose. Kinda like negotiating with kidnappers; keep it among those you can trust and first-and-foremost, protect yourself!

Let's hope that this is your last dealing with them.

I can't even imagine the emotional roller coaster you must have been on ! Speaking of movies I just saw the "Frozen River " the other night about smuggling people through the Res through Canada and into the USA and then I read this .

Sorry for all your grief but way to think on your feet and get the reward out and ultimately the car back .

Pete, that is fantastic news. Glad to hear your car is back in your hands. It sounds like you had to do whatever it took to get the car back, which is exactly what most of us, especially me, would have done. I would have taken out a loan out to get it back. They make trucks and trailers everyday.

Does this mean that if you go on the reservation, get your car, shoot them and then return to non-reservation soil, that reservation police can't do anything to you? And since the shooting didn't occur in their jurisdiction, the local police can't do anything either. That seems to be the way it should work, doesn't it?

In any event, I'm glad you got your car back. I just have a problem with people who feel they have the right to take or destroy something that is not theirs.... Although I guess this is an interesting theory when the issue involved Native Americans....
