Killer is the track is STILL there and basically the country side STILL looks the same! An airport like it was 35 years ago.

 poor attendence? locals? red tape? wanted to drive out there after the reunion last month but ran outta time. alot of history there!

York US 30 was one of the first places I drove to upon getting my driver's license. The track was and still is Thomasville Airport. Still surrounded by fields and quarries just as it was back in the day so I doubt noise would have been a problem. If my memory is correct, the tower is long gone. Not really sure of the reason for the track's demise. It was fun to go with a car load of teenagers. The guys at the gate must have had x-vision and somehow knew we usually had another guy or two in the trunk.

Doubt if it was noise and absolutely not poor attendance IMO. It was an airport and a drag strip. I guess the airport eventually won out. If NHRA was smart they would have bought YORK US 30 instead of some of the other tracks they bought. You could park a million cars there.
 Maybe the airport owners would not sell and NHRA wanted to buy it but couldn't. Many, many great events were held there. I went there since 1970. The first Summernats!
