got 4500 for my worn out 90 chevy van (my $500 tow vehicle). I got a 20k loaded black ford focus 2 door (17 inch wheels, car has 'everything even satelite radio, subwoofer, etc) with rebates out the door for only 11,800. Atleast I did not reward bailed-out GM and chrysler on this handout program, plus there was no way I would buy a kia or similar. chevy tahoe is now the only tow vehicle I have for trailering. But what a deal (rather than complain, I did the evil deed, and got upgraded on the cheap). This program is really insane.

The van did not rule out the focus. Believe it or not, when you do one of these deals, you have to show over 1 yr of insurance (who keeps the previous insurance card, I had to dig for mine and found them), 1 year of registrations (ford wanted 2 yrs to be safe), and the new car has to be in the same name. At present, I am not sure its that easy to get approval unless your paperwork is perfect. I have seen people taking a car before their approval is in (assuming some financial risk). I can see a dealer putting their trade-in on the lot until that approval comes in. If the paperwork never gets approved, and you have to return the new car, the dealer atleast tested the waters on your trade in. They wanted me to do same, and I said no way, no approval, then I am not taking the car. Maybe there is a reason some clunker cars appear for sale for a while out there (people taking new cars before approvals come in).

A good Ins Agent would have printed cards for you.
I gave one of my insureds two years of ID cars for his truck. The next day the salesman calls me from the dealership he was getting the car from. He tells me to type up a paper with the VIN# of his truck ,the pol # & the dates for his Insurance. I explained to him that's what the cards were for!! They had ALL the info the Govt. Needed. I asked him if he had a type writer , he said no I explained I didn't either. I asked him to call me back when he knew for sure what they NEEDED. I haven't heard from him. That was 6 days ago. My insured has his new car!! GO FIGURE.
Another great Govt. program.
