You're safe. Just keep an eye on it and don't soak it too long (like over several days) or it sometimes loosens certain paints that are near the rusted area - in other words it works too good sometimes and gets to all the rusted metal whether it's under paint or out in the open.

BTW, I used the purple stuff cleaner on the belt fabric and it cleans them great.
