The old systems were designed to work with R12.......I can only speak from my experience...Years ago I switched my Factory Air 66 Chevelle over to Freeze 12 ....I drove the car for a month in the Summer before switching back to R12....It lowered the air temp inside but "Never" cooled the Inside.......The old systems are Designed and Balanced to work with the R12 and everything else (with the stock components) is a compromise..........

134A does not cool as well and if your not crafty enough to make your own charge manifold you have the big retro fitting on the low side to deface your restoration, that is why I prefer the R12, but I am getting low on my stock of this gas, I have seen these cans for sale before (30lb cans) for 800.00, and of course the 12oz cans for 10-20 bucks, I have a chance to buy way more than I need but I have to buy it all, I will most likely sell off some of it, I was just curious if anybody knows what it sells for today because you do not see it much anymore??

Anywhere from $5-30 on the local Craigslist and eBay. I tried to sell a 30# a few months back on CL at $10 a pound and never got a bite on it so I gave it to Dad for his old Chevy truck after I told him I was going to sell it.
If you look around at garage sales one can find it too. Thats where I found 3 30# for $10 a keg. |
