In the Rod Shop Paint scheme with Gerlach on the door... Did anyone notice the Belmont White with Blue bumblebee RS/SS 67 Camaro with BB call outs?

[/ QUOTE ]

The car you are referring to was Lance Hill's BB Canadian Pace Car...Pretty cool to see Chris's Bat Car and Lance Hill's Drag Pacer together in the same photo...It believe it was also an L78

Would have been very cool to see those two square off

[/ QUOTE ]

Have done a little research into the Lance Hill car as I was interested in learning more about it as reported to be an L78. Turns out the car was originally a factory TH400 L35 325hp 396 car according to Lance himself according to a researchers information on the Pace Car site. That in itself is somewhat disappointing as it means it will never be added to the registry as an L78 but it is not all there is to it. Turns out the car is a Canadian version of the Pace Car made for the MOSPORT GP and sold there then purchased by Hill to be converted into a race car in 1970. Could write an entire thread on that one to but this is all about the BATCAR.

Back to the BATCAR, more pics incoming in a day or two.

Does the "Midwest Auto Parts" drag Camaro still exist? And was it a L78 car?

I'm thinking about burnouts with slicks! We'll see.

Default re Dave Connor/Sherm Gerlach car/Belmont car

I received an e-mail advising there was a picture of one of my old race cars on the site.

This thread is about Sherman Gerlach and his car, and should be, and so I will only add that the pic of the Lance Hill Camaro racing Tim Richard's SS/DA Hemi car was taken during Super Stock Eliminator at the 1971 Grandnationals where the Camaro was #1 qualifier with an 11.36 on its own NHRA National Record of 11.61, and went on to 4 cars remaining before breaking out against Dean Nicopolous's Hemi car while hard on the brakes.

Actually, the Pace Car Trust guys advise that the Belmont car turns out to be one of the most rare of all Camaros to come out of Norwalk. Who knew, or cared, at the time, right?

Dave Connor and Sherm Gerlach raced with us in Division 3 and we all knew each other pretty well. I am real glad to see that Sherm was able to not only preserve his car, but to do it so well. Good on you, Sherm.

If you are referring to Dick Arons' 1967 Maroon coupe that Dick won the 67 Super Stock Nationals with and runner-upped to Ed Miller's Hemi car in the famous $10,000 World Finals race in 67, it was an L35 with Turbo 400 trans but I can't remember if it started out that way or not. Don't know whatever happened to it, but hope it has survived as it is one truly historic Camaro. Dickie works at Dart with Maskin so anybody could call there and ask him. If you do, say hello for me.

Here's a photo of the Bat Car courtesy of Mr.Bill Truby. I believe this was taken at Pittsburg.

Actually I was refering to the white 67 big block ragtop. Somewhere on this site there is a photo of it going up against "The Old Reliable" 68 Z. Really cool picture. The history on these first gen Camaro drag cars is all new to me and really quite interesting. From day one purchase at the dealership to race car, to retirement, destruction, or restoration they all have a story. Fascinating stuff.
