Default Re: Help with 1968 GT500 Restoration

Yes, non-KR 1968's used a 428 PI engine, aluminum high rise type intake with Holley 735 CFM carb.

These were not VIN stamped so you need to check casting numbers, casting date, and the stamped in engine assembly date against the build date of the car. If you send me the vin I can tell you the build date - or you can contact Marti Auto Works and order one of his reports that will help you figure out exactly what the car is (was). I don't have a book in front of me but I think the casting numbers you list are correct - but double check!

Hope this helps-
Colin

67 GT500 Block casting numbers: C6ME-A, C7ME-A

Head casting numbers: C6AE-Y, C7AE-Y

The C8AE-H heads are:

1968 - 390,428 with auto trans except PI
1969 - 390,428 except PI
1970 - 390,428 PI
1971 - 390

Check your casting dates on the side of the block where the oil filter adapter attaches.
