Those BE stamps do look similar so probably not a restamped BL. The 1001 date code is incredibly early for a COPO car. The casting date lines up with the stamping date but the first COPO's were late Dec so if that rear is legit, it would be from a very early COPO most likely if not from a prototype. Has anyone seen a BE rear dated earlier than Dec? Could be an interesting find.

I think the "E" looks deep in lower case as well as the "B" given the area of the tube it was hit, Charley's rear in pic the upper E was hit on the down side the eaton E was hit on the upper side giving one deep on lower case and one deep on upper case. Stamping a circumference with a smill die will give variance on direction hit and location, whether more parallel or vertical on the tube. A simple pencil scribe next to each other on paper will tell type set.
