almost forgot........WELCOME ronnie !!! glad to have you here from the place i honeymooned 14 yrs ago !!!!
and check here for everything chevelle if you click on the engine suffix codes, you can see where the 396 could have received the 3 speed manual trans..

The 3 speed was the standard trans that came in the SS. If you wanted a 4 speed, you had to pony up more dollars. The p-o-p will have the 3 speed code on it. As stated, post some pictures of it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I will post pics over the next day or so. The car is located in Cayman and the price stated was the original purchase price.
