In my opinion NASCAR started dying February 18, 2001. Earnhardt was their strongest supporter, and at the same time, their most severe critic. He had the clout to stand up to the France family and be the voice of the common man. When he died there was no one left to be the equalizer. I always felt Kyle Petty might have stepped into that role. He didn't have the strength that Earnhardt carried, but he had the family backing (Petty), and I think he could have garnered the support of the core of drivers to keep things in balance. That's all gone now so the greed of NASCAR can now continue on their suicide mission. I really don't care since I quit watching two years ago.
And BTW, if the NHRA doesn't deep-six their latest 'Grand Idea' of the points equalization fiasco, they're headed in the same direction. BRING BACK the AHRA!

[/ QUOTE ] They've been in trouble for a while...and how did they respond this year? By agreeing to raise the PRO class payouts, all while raising the entry for the Sportsman guys! And now they've tightened up the grade point policies @ events, which basically shuts the door to the poor folks who can't afford to travel around to every divisional just to collect enough points...basically further cutting down their customer base. But they labeled it as a result of "pit parking complications"...you can't make this stuff up! I've always entertained the idea of an NHRA stocker ride, but I'm not sure the NHRA even cares if those cars show up anymore? IHRA seems to, but there's not enough tracks on the left of the Mississippi... I thought it was HILARIOUS the way "the Sarge" had 'em in a tight spot over the nitro shortage...most folks don't realize how close the NHRA was to not having enough nitro to finish the year! |

It is difficult to watch and even harder to realize how greed has destroyed what was a good sport.

Yes,the greed of nascar and others has killed the sport;I watch a few races a year now and its hard to do that.Dale earnhardt, rusty Wallace are old school guys;take guys like that(out of the mix) who don;t mind speaking their mind and have some influence and corporate greed of nascar takes over.just my .02 cents.Chris

I stopped watching NASCAR when they started slowing down better cars... that's just bad business.... go build a better car and come back... the desire to innovate is what fuels racing... then the "the ones who believe they are the reason for it's being" think they know what the manufacturers need... it becomes all about limiting everyone to make them equal... making everyone equal SUCKS AND IS NO FUN!!!
