It may look strange Pete, but that's the way they did it. By the way, no two-tones on convertibles, although some people have restored them that way.

Look at those painted exhaust manifolds... no paint on the hose from the water pump to intake, and the mask line on the thermostat housing... and the crayon marking on the cylinder.
 awesome shots!

Great Photos,amazing to see the line back then. I didnt know they had robotics back then , assuming the articulated welding on the floor pan shot!
I was born in 59!!!!!!!!!!

Outstanding set of photos. Thanks for the link. I'd always hoped to find some 59 Assembly Plant pictures.
Here are a few pix of a 4 door 59 I picked up about 10 years ago. Only had 23,000 miles on it when I bought it and still had some original paint on the exhaust manifolds. That paint is all but gone now. It is a great car to drive in, still has original springs and shocks. Phil Woj.
