I know a guy who answered a "1970 Chevelle for sale" ad and found a one owner LS5 4-speed with 46K miles on it needing only a valve job with very nice original paint for $6,500! It came with paperwork and a picture of the car sitting on the showroom floor. Amazing survivor car.

I have been told (a possible rumor only) that, at least in California, if someone's selling a car/motorcycle that's a collector item and is worth a lot more money than they are asking, you have to tell them or they have a right to sue you later if you sell it for a huge profit.

That sounded ridiculous to me, but so are a lot of laws. I'm sure it's just a rumor, but does anyone know about this? This story above just reminded me of it. I'd sure hate to find a Yenko or something some day for a couple of grand and be sued because of some "unfair purchase" laws.

"Your honor, I swear as far as I knew it was a 6 cyl auto car that someone put a 427 in. I have the 1969 dealer catalog right here and there is no mention of a 427 in a Camaro at all."

I'm not a laywer, but I did come across a similar issue recently in a dispute over a piece of antique furniture. The buyer paid $400 for an item that was worth $2000. The seller tried to cancel the deal and it went to court. The buyer ended up winning the case, but that was only because he was "not an expert on the real value of the piece". In a nutshell, if you know the true value of something and manage to get the seller to accept a stupidly low price the court will cancel the sale. You will have been deemed to have "duped " the seller. Probably the reason more of these cases don't end up in court is that the seller never finds out the real value. Bragging about a great deal can get you into trouble.

Is there anyone local (within South Carolina) that could give the person a call who has the 'vette? I tried both numbers without reply. Maybe it's because I am calling from a hospital in Massachusetts (caller ID thing...)
Thanks
