The tape in the photos appears to have been applied to the underbody, not to secure the cushions to the subframe; I'd guess Fisher Body applied it at the rear mount bolt hole locations to keep water out of the body during their 3-minute on-line water test in the Trim Shop, which had spray nozzles under the body as well as on the outside. They also had large foam clamp-on masks that covered the heater and blower openings, steering column openings, and floor shift openings, as all of those parts were installed later by Chevrolet.

That is awesome. Exactly the answer I was looking for, mainly because it makes sense. Thanks John, you truly are amazing. Thanks to everyone else also.

John sure has a knack for shutting down discussions of this sort.

Here's the driver's side on my '67 BB Camaro, complete with grimy patina.

Here is a pic of my Pace car and it seems to confirm what John stated.

Did all of the plants do the water test? Is the tape on both sides? I don't think I've ever seen this tape on the Novas built at Willow Run, MI

What the "F" M.....that's what I wanted to ask too.
I haven't seen this on any Van Nuys built A-bodies.
Was it a Norwood,Ohio only test?
