I know for a fact the some people have more than one ID. I'm not sure if they signed up with a fake or maybe a friend or family members name. But, I'm sure that some people push auctions up. I'm not crazy about it either.

Im sure it happens all the time. This is why I wait till the last seconds to place my bid, this way it does not become a "pissing" match". If you view the bidding history you can sometime see that two bidders just keep going back and forth driving up the price. I determine what Im willing to pay at the end and place that bid late in the auction. If I win I win... if not Oh well.

eBay allows you to have more than one user id but you have to have a different email account for each id. I know, I have two. I got the second one because I have too many people watching the first id I have.

If you feel there is shill bidding going on, report it to eBay, they'll check it out, of course in their time. If it it so, they'll kick the seller off eBay for a while.

I did not get the second id to play the shill bidding game, I place a reserve on my items or start the auction out at what I want and let it go.

It happened to me about five years ago. I called the guy on it, threatened to cancel my bid, and eventually got the parts for my original bid. I clicked on his "Me" icon and read about his parts collecting story and his location. His buddy-bidder had a "Me" icon and a similar story and was in the same city! EBay's great but you gotta' be careful.

Guys,

Here's one for the category:

About a year ago, I was bidding on an early J-8-8 BB
exhaust manifold with SMOG ports for my Camaro. It was
one of the last pieces I needed. OK, I was the high bidder
and I wanted to up my bid in the last 30 minutes. I tried
to log in with my regular computer and bid again, but I got
that darn "cookies error" eBay is famous for. So, I used
my laptop to log in and I picked the wrong username ( I
have 3 also ) and I bid against myself and uped my own bid
by almost $250. Needless to say, I won the auction, but I
was sick. I immediately contacted the seller and told him
about my stupid mistake and he graciously agreed to sell me
the manifold for my previous bid amount. This saved me
$250 and I learned my lesson. I'm more careful now.

Steve
