Jeff please send me the picture. What is the casting number on your block?
Those numbers did not hit me right when I saw them. So what is this block?

Have you tried tapping the casting number with a small hammer?
I ran into a situation similar to yours, and found a homemade raised casting number epoxied over a flat surface.

Don't smack it with a hammer just yet - try a magnet!
