Default Re: Original stamping?

That transmission is September of 1969, making it a 1970 transmission, not an early 1969 as listed. The stamp on that case is P9P10 P= Muncie, 9=1969, P= September, 10= 10th. Here is a 69 stamp comparison from a Camaro Muncie that I recently sold. I don't know why that transmission listed isn't stamped "C" for M22, as it should being a 1970 trans.

P9P10 Muncie build decodes as...

P---Muncie assembly plant
9---1969 model year
P---Sept.
10--10th day of Sept.
This is an early build trans, Sept. 10th of 1968 for use in a 1969 model year car...
It has no A-B-C ratio designator because that didn't start until the end of Sept. 1968 calendar year, a little more than a month later... Hope this helps... Crash

That's a common decoding mistake with Muncies. As Crash said, the number after the "P" is model year of the car and not the calendar year of the trans assembly.

Thanks for the additional information about this trans stamping. Would any of you venture an opinion as to whether the stamping is original or is it a restamp?

He said "the NUMBER AFTER the "P" is model year. You decoded it perfectly above. As has been stated the 9 represents the model year vehicle this was used in , Not the calendar year it was built.

I have a Muncie with build date P9R03B, this one is Oct 69 based on the VIN derivative.
