Since the car is an original 20000 mile example, and all the parts are like new, I tend to believe that this is the original shifter. It even has the castle style bolts that attach the shifter bracket to the transmission.

Well Paul,
That would be a first for me. However, you can't rule anything out with "The Genreal" now can you. I'd like to know if any other members here have seen an "original" BB Camaro with the SB style nut. Another observation as well. The far left rod looks to be threaded in very far forward. I don't think that is correct. I had been told that this was one indication of SB rods being used on a BB application. BTW, are the shifter rods stamped with any numbers by chance? Steve |

More then likely, it was a supplier issue. Like GM in 69, Hurst relyed on many suppliers to feed their factory. If a supplier shipped a piece that was square rather then round it was sent to the inspectors. If it was in spec as far as tensile strenght, thread size, base metal, etc.. it was OK for production. If you think the shifter is OEM, I wounld't worry about it.
