This reminds me in the late 80s,i went to buy an all original 69 z28,the owner swore it was the 302 born with the car, never wrecked, upon inspection shabby rear qourter job, then i started it,slapped the throttle for a quick rev and it reved to about 4500,I did it again then turned the car off,I said this is not a 302!! it revs like a 350,having owned one i new they would rev to 7500 no problem, the owner then said well i did have some work done on the engine along time ago, obvously this was gonna be a no sale. mabey the guy that he had work on the engine stole the good parts when he rebuilt it .I think if your speding big money on a car,it must be inspected, and owner history is very important....if i was gonna buy a car for under ten grand on ebay i would, and did turned out it was a real rs z28 without the motor or papers no biggie thats small money..but if im gonna kick down 50 plus grand on a car it better be real.... just remember if its to good to be true it most likley is.If you really want the real mckoy, you have to spend the real mckoy. 37 k for a L78 convert hum!!try 100 plus...

[/ QUOTE ] You hit the nail on the head! Previous owner history is without a doubt, the most telling tale of any muscle car today. People are too quick to just look a car, with its matching this and that, combined with any paperwork and automatically assume they are buying an original untouched car. Previous owners of any car that spent it's life up here in Ontario, Canada can be pretty easily found through DMV records and I have no doubt that some states also have this service. Regardless, there are some Title service companies that can find out who used to own the car in the past and if not, any cop can find some info on the car. Everyone has a cop friend right? If someone is selling a low mileage legitimate collector car, they will ALWAYS have the name and phone number of the previous owner. Don't be scared to call up a previous owner before you buy a car.
