I thought you were waiting for Bud to answer by measuring his,sorry. "Sometime in the early 80's the tooling was starting to wear out and the depth was changed to just under 1/8". This is not true.GM changed the depth of the cap to 1/8 around 1973 as a service part. I & others in the NCOA have documented this. I have an NOS set in dated GM boxes.Just wanted to add this.

Mr70, I stand corrected.
 The only reason I thought it might have been the early 80's is that I bought a set in 84 from the local dealer and 3 of them were the shallow style with one being the original depth...........Troy/RatPack.......
