Let me rephrase to calm the purists. If you should happen to come across a spare Muncie handle, weather beaten and worn, then use it to make a hybrid if that suits your fancy. Naturally it would be a sin to deface an original part from the GM assembly line, saints forgive me.

Wilma: when I get my Yenko Chevelle to that point, I'd like follow your lead on the shifter. Have any trouble grafting the handle on? Seem sturdy??

Well said and a good lesson for all enthusiasts. Many original / NOS parts are long gone due to misapplication. When possible, preserve or use factory parts on a well deserving car.

By the way Tom.....Enjoy your Berger Car!

dont cut a 4spd unit ever!

buy a 3spd shifter cut it off take the grinder and cut the same marks on the bottom as the Hurst handle drill two holes bolt on and go bang gears....sorry Craig I know how you feel about the factory shifters but how many 3spd shifters do we need around correctly restored???..
I plan to whack a 3spd model as soon as I find one that is not a total turd.
