Never messed with the top fitting, and I agree, it is soldered in place. I have unsoldered the pipe filler on a new tank because of alignment issues.
Don't be scared, just do it

Regular plumbing solder ( DO NOT try and use rosen core solder

)

Why 110? I had Schonye up the CR to 12.5 for a bit more umph!
