The rule of thumb is that the cowl and the dash match and for LA cars, it is true that some did not get a vin stamped in the heater area for some reason. If the cowl has not been changed then the vin on the dash may have been changed. How does the body production number on the trim tag and line up with the VIN number?

Also- the vin on the motor - i thought they put those next to the oil filter on the later production cars - like after Jan 69 etc....you need to check this point as well.
