"Sometime in the early 80's the tooling was starting to wear out and the depth was changed to just under 1/8".
This is not true.GM changed the depth of the cap to 1/8 around 1973 as a service part.
I & others in the NCOA have documented this.
I have an NOS set in dated GM boxes.Just wanted to add this.

Mr70, I stand corrected.

The only reason I thought it might have been the early 80's is that I bought a set in 84 from the local dealer and 3 of them were the shallow style with one being the original depth...........Troy/RatPack.......
