Your recollection is correct.Article goes on to say there was an earlier repair on that Chevelle axle housing, that was poorly done. Don't blame the Driver. ![]() |

JJ is a wild man, especially when he's piloting a 4hitter! I think he bent his shifter rods last June on his 'vette while hammerin gears at the pure stock race

That was a bummer on the 'velle in that article, because I think that chevelle is fully capable of matching the et of the copo camaro. I've seen it racing at subsequent pure stock events, and JJ can really drive!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I still have not got my copy yet

One of these days I might actually restore the car. When I got it, it had blue velour seat inserts and a after market wheel etc etc, a lot of wrong things. The good news was that it had all original body panels and the original motor and bum. Back in 86 I put the wrong seat covers on it because I did'nt know any better, and really did'nt care as I knew I was just gunna race it. Found a 71 steering wheel that would do for the time etc etc. I now have a new dash that is'nt cut out for gauges, a new steering wheel, and an original May 70 dated exhaust manfolds/smog with original hoses from a May 70 Z28 that was removed the first week of purchase and put in a attic. Maybe by the 10th Supercar Reunion it will be ready. At least that's kinda my aim. Thanks again

On the Chevelle, it was a pooly previous repair on the center section. It is all welded up and fixed properly now. Still all original tubes and center section. You can see the welds and some think I should fix it so you can't see them, but I like to think of it has history of the car and leave it that way.

I got that line of thinking from Micky Hale as he left some of the war wounds on his 'Cane from it's glory dayz! Before that shootout, I never really looked at the rar end. I had never raced the car since I had owned it, so when the shootout came up we went tp the track the week-end before. I had the carb rebuilt and the distributor recurved and the first and second passes were both 13 teens, so we were happy and went home thinking the car was ready! Peter

Pete's buddy Jim races it cause Pete likes the automatic 69 COPO Camaros he owns but also races Jim in the Nova when he's in his 69 yellow COPO Chevelle that I could have bought before Pete. His 55 Chevy was a blast too when he took me for a drive. I nearly $hit myself.
