Default General Auction Rant

I'm going to apologize in advance for this so hopefully I don't offend anybody. I was at the Kruse auction on Saturday and and I saw something I've seen at other auctions and also online ads. What I'm talking about is the ridiculous use of underhood and underbody markings. In some cases it looks like the same person is doing this because the radiator has "-20" also an "X" at the upper rad hose, X's in several other places also paint dabs on everything. Also the obligatory vehicle color written on the firewall along with "M21" and of course top it all off with a "Caution Fan" sticker. The firewall writing is hilarious as it is very neat and straight like they found the one guy in the plant with the best penmanship. Again, sorry for the rant.

Paul

I will have to agree.. all of the X's and paint dabs are annoying. When cars have all of those marks... it makes you wonder what else is not correct?

I concur with your rant. It just irritates me no end when I see these "clown cars" with 47 different paint daubs on every piece of suspension hardware. And of course the perfect markings on the firewall are always fun. That's one of the reasons I had my 5-year old do the paint markings on my car. I showed him the original pre-disassembly photos and he had a lot of fun duplicating the sparse original markings on the rear differential. He ended up being just as sloppy as the assembly line workers.

Seems like it's sort of an "all-in" or "all-out" situation on these cars. I reproduced the two firewall marks I found on my car and added the drive shaft stripe. Then I quit.

I've seen the cars you are talking about. Looks like Walt Disney threw up in the engine compartment!

Too much.......

Oh, and the "Caution Fan" decal!? What car is that correct for?

I've seen this on 68-72 Olds A bodies and am pretty sure it's not supposed to be there.

No problem if they were on the car originally. But many times, you can get a sense when there is a lot of made-up marks on a car.

If I were to restore a car that was marked up... I would with out a doubt have many good pictures and drawings with notes so I could duplicate the marks... thus I would have documentation backing up the restored cars marks.
