I posted this over at the 348/409 site but looking for help here as well.....
I purchased a restored dated starter for our 62 409. It appears that the incorrect starter currently in the car bolts in with 3 vertical bolts from the bottom of the starter into the block - the correct restored starter bolts with 3 horizontal bolts into the bellhousing. Do I now just need the correct hardware for the bellhousing mounts or anything else? Don't mind the custom road draft tube bracket.... Thanks in advance. |

I don't see where your current bellhousing will accommodate 3 fasteners, only 2. Didn't the '62 have a cast bell ? I can look at the one I have here and see if it has 3 mounting holes.

Ah, the bottom hole is in the casting but couldn't see it from the back.

The new flange style starter is for a Manual Transmission.

I know for a fact that the bolt to the block style starters were used when a Turboglide was installed, as far back as 1957.

If you want the starter to be more correct looking, originals had a pin going through the fork that was held in by a snap ring, not a bolt and nut affair.
