Default 2nd Gen Trans Am$ at Barrett Jackson

I'm I the only one that is in total shock over the money be brought in by the 79 and 80 Trans Am's at Barrett Jackson?
$170,000 for the 10th Anniversary car that is still in the wrapper!!! Unbelievable in my opinion!

Yup, and an 84 20th Anniversary Mustang convertible brought $71,500 with fees. Not shocked, exactly, but it's interesting.

The demographics are shifting to the 70s and 80s. An 84 Mustang is now 32 years old. Guys have always liked the cars of their generation. Those that grew up seeing Formulas, T/As, Z28s and 5.0 GTs will be the generation that restores cars.

...Not nearly as plentiful as the alcohol flowing at the auction which is the main reason for the insane prices paid.

I'm surprised to hear you say that. People that were kids when those late 70's cars came out are in their late 40's early 50's now and now have the money are buying the cars of their dreams. I don't see any difference in those cars as to people paying 300k for a yenko or Hemi or what we liked when we were kids. No car is WORTH that money. It's what your willing to pay to make you happy. A long time ago a guy I met told me you can never spend too much on a good car, your just buying a little early. Take that for what it's worth.

I agree to some degree but those TA's were built in quantity and lacked performance. Also the examples sold are an anomaly those prices are even close to the norm.!

110K for a 1980 turbo in the wrapper. I was sitting with JW and Tenney at R&S Newport a couple years ago when J Dubs 10TH with 30 miles hammered for around 60k, and that one belonged to the man. How many tens of thousands of starlight black TA's did they make? Insane indeed.
Conversely, the monkey garage cat got whacked on his serial# one & two gen 5 COPO's, what a look on his face..

I saw that...when the COPO's went across. Karma, maybe?
