2nd Gen Trans Am$ at Barrett Jackson
I'm I the only one that is in total shock over the money be brought in by the 79 and 80 Trans Am's at Barrett Jackson?
$170,000 for the 10th Anniversary car that is still in the wrapper!!! Unbelievable in my opinion! Dave |
Re: 2nd Gen Trans Am$ at Barrett Jackson
Yup, and an 84 20th Anniversary Mustang convertible brought $71,500 with fees. Not shocked, exactly, but it's interesting.

Re: 2nd Gen Trans Am$ at Barrett Jackson
The demographics are shifting to the 70s and 80s. An 84 Mustang is now 32 years old. Guys have always liked the cars of their generation. Those that grew up seeing Formulas, T/As, Z28s and 5.0 GTs will be the generation that restores cars.

Re: 2nd Gen Trans Am$ at Barrett Jackson
How plentiful do you guys think that nos parts are available for the 2nd generation compared to 67-69?

Re: 2nd Gen Trans Am$ at Barrett Jackson
...Not nearly as plentiful as the alcohol flowing at the auction which is the main reason for the insane prices paid.

Re: 2nd Gen Trans Am$ at Barrett Jackson
I know that '79 T/A is absurd! How about a '54 'Vette doing $200 thou? It was a good one but I've never seen ANY '54 do $200,000.00

Re: 2nd Gen Trans Am$ at Barrett Jackson
More evidence to prove younger guys like me are priced way out of the market, and probably always will be. I remember a few years ago, a '79 T/A was cheap-ish. I like them, always have, but they were entry level. Same with foxbody Mustangs, and if a 1984 went for 71.5k, I fear us younger guys will never afford muscle cars, since the new ones are just as expensive.

I'm surprised to hear you say that. People that were kids when those late 70's cars came out are in their late 40's early 50's now and now have the money are buying the cars of their dreams. I don't see any difference in those cars as to people paying 300k for a yenko or Hemi or what we liked when we were kids. No car is WORTH that money. It's what your willing to pay to make you happy. A long time ago a guy I met told me you can never spend too much on a good car, your just buying a little early. Take that for what it's worth. |

Also the examples sold are an anomaly those prices are even close to the norm.! |
