Default 66 Vette Firewall Markings?

I'm getting ready to put the engine back in my 66 Corvette and was cleaning the engine compartment when we noticed these markings on the firewall. It is "f431".

Initially, I thought that it stood for F41 suspension. Does anybody know for sure?

Thanks, Ed

Could be the "Job No.". Check to see if the vin# is within 5 digits of "431" or "931" to be sure.

It’s the job number. One letter and three numbers. Located on the engine side of where the passenger’s feet should go. Below the heater box. You will also find the same job number on the back tube. I've posted a few reference pictures for you.

Howard and Dave:

Thanks for the information. I've had a couple of Midyears but never an original one and i guess this is the first one that I pulled an engine. Ed

That is very typical of all Corvettes. Heck, we just finished working on an '82 coupe, 37k original miles that had its job on the firewall too. Nice find, I remember talking to you about the car Ed.

Dan:

This is my 427/425 HP Original paint Corvette. I'm still waiting to hear about the Black 66 L79 Corvette. And you're still first on the list when I do. As I told you, it's a pretty awkward situation aand can't be pushed. Ed

Ed,

I was not even referring to the black car. I remember you telling me about your '66 you were doing a motor on.
