Default Gas Tank Filler Necks: Anatomy/Physiology?

Anyone separated the top most piece of the filler neck on a gas tank? This is the piece that the gas cap fits in to. I am thinking this may be soldered in place and might not be to difficult to separate with modest heat applied.

Thanks for your input.

Gas fumes, heat source, what could go wrong. Will be looking for a glow to the south of my place.

I'm no maroon. I'll empty most of the liquid out of it.

South of your place Hell he darn near lives in Mexico..

Hay Sammy
Never messed with the top fitting, and I agree, it is soldered in place. I have unsoldered the pipe filler on a new tank because of alignment issues.
Don't be scared, just do it

Make sure you don't cause a flash fire Sam. Those are equally as dangerous!

I vaguely remember someone filling the gas tank with water before applying heat and replacing a neck

Regular plumbing solder ( DO NOT try and use rosen core solder )
