Wow, you guys started driving late in life! I actually drove a car alone for the first time at age eight! My Dad worked for an implement dealer and needed to pick up a farm truck to take in for some service. I went with him to the farmer's house; he drove the truck back and I drove our '51 Chevy home. My Mom almost killed him when she found out!
As for the first car.... it was a '57 BelAir Hardtop/283 "PowerPack", 3 speed. Still Have It!
When I bought it, the original 4 barrel was gone and it had a two barrel on it. Wasn't that way long as I replaced it with a 780 Holley and a '65 L79 intake. (She never starved for fuel!
) The previous owner, who I knew, had run dual AFB's, but took them off when he sold it. It now sits ready to accept a fresh LT-1 with correct appearing Dual WCFB's.
I'm the second owner, and the original owner called me a couple of years ago asking about buying it back. I think I'll just hang on to it.
