Looking for suggestions for a DOT approved slick with a day2 look that I can buy off the shelf..

A lot of gents here run the new release of the MH cheater slick with a good result. On really nice days I'll be running MT ET Street Slicks on the back of my Z28. Nice tire with a good following. Cool look on either one when you color in the MH or MT with an oil based white paint Sharpie pen.

Don't think the M&h cheaters are dot as I am going to put these on my Chevelle soon and I did some research.

I spoke to a guy from M&H at length today and he was very candid with me regarding tires. First off, all of their drag slicks are made in the same molds they made them in 40/50 years ago where nothing has changed except for the rubber compounds. Same old sidewall, same old lettering schemes. The early ones guys used to have with small letters were only made for dragsters and they haven't made those in years, but all other lettering on slicks are the same as they were in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

The Non DOT 9.0-27-15 slick will fit an 8" wheel nicely and has an 11.10 section wall and 9.0 tread width at 10psi. These are as classic 2 ply design.

The 28-12.5-15 Wrinkle Wall Cheaters are DOT for use on 10" rims and were designed so a guy could mount & fill them to 40lbs, drive to the track, lower to 10lbs and run the car all day. Fill them back to 40lbs, drive the car home and take them off. He said they'd flat spot if guys would leave them on the car and are only a 3 ply sidewall.

The J60-15 is a classic muscle car DOT tire with a more modern tread pattern, and like the above cheaters are not intended to be left on the car for long periods w/o flat spotting. They are modern compound 27" rubber with a 10.7" section width and an 8.0" tire width for use on 7" wheels.

Front runners are also available DOT Certified in various sizes. Any of their tires can also be ordered without white lettering where they simply don't paint them. I asked about their old tread designs from the 70's & 80's street tires and although they do still have the molds, the tires are no longer made. The old L60 and N50 design could be run again if the market came back, but he added that no custom runs will ever be done w/o a minimum of 300 pairs ordered and all funding up front. That also holds true for any of the old pie cut designs where they still have the molds.

One last thing he mentioned was to beware the recaps that are being flogged on eBay and look like old profile slicks and cheaters. A lot of guys are buying them and they are dangerous to run. He said to check on others brands including Coker as he was thinking they also offered a vintage looking recap but could not say for sure. Buyer beware is what he said outside of the major brands so do your homework ahead of time.

I also had a similar conversation with the Mickey Thompson rep at the Northwest Nationals in Seattle a month ago and he said they had dropped the old MT Indy Profile selling off the last of the stock to Summitt a year or two back. They still market the Sportsman line, their drag slicks and the newer ET Streets, but said that sales are stronger in Drag Radials and until that market changes, it'll remain the same.

I have been running the M&H muscle car DOT 275/60's Cheater style slicks on my 67 Camaro, I love them, great selection of sizes, Look Cool, Drive pretty decent on the street & Hook damn good at the track w/just a little burn out. Im on my 3rd pair on 2 different cars

I use the M&H. I think they work awesome and also have the right look
