CE Block

...A 283 CE block! I suppose you could make that Chevelle or Impala one step closer to original with this block. I believe it's a 1968 casting - need to check the # and dates. Totally untouched original, standard bore (needs to go +0.030), never decked. $100, pick up only please. Thanks, Tony

That's got to be a record for the least expensive engine offered for sale on this site.....

Someone may look at a casting number such as 3955272 or 3956618 and the date and consider there block a 327 since gm made both 327 and 350 with these it would be possible to find a 4 bolt that someone just thought was a 327

Ya, OK glad you are convinced. The gentleman is selling a CE 283 for a excellent price. They were 2 bolt period and small journal.Perfect for a early impala etc.
I am sure he knows what he is selling. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

3956618 would have a 4 inch bore vs 3.875 on the 283 and large journal after april 68 vs small on the 283.618 I don't recall being 4 bolt until 69 and never in a 327
3955272 was a 396 the last time I looked.ButI know nothing about small blocks. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
Keep polishing those $10,000 cranks

Re: CE Block

Tony, You could make that block a 301 and use your 283 crank. That was the dawn of the 67 302. That is how they did it. A 4" bore block (327) and a 283 crank. Many rodders bored the 283 block out and made it a 301. How about a 292? That baby would scream. The 2 bolt main bottom end does not really affect anything. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Old story: I had a fellow call me and ask if I wanted a 4 bolt 283 engine. I knew there was no such thing but, what the heck.....I took it. When we carried it off his front porch (no kidding) the decal on the valve cover read "283 Four Barrel" https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

I think I still have it buried somewhere in the garage. Seems like it was a 1963 casting. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

I was hoping no one would mention the $10k crank. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif Sam, I thought about building this one. If someone on here doesn't want it, I'll keep it for a rainy day....
